RE: Meguire's vs. Turtle Wax

For those who have a subscription to consumerreports.org, there is a good article on auto waxes and polishes with ratings on 28 different products.

RE: GGGGGRRRRRRR!!!! *^$%!@%& New holding tank valve

Had the same problem. I loosend the back valve screws, then losely put the screws into the gray vavle, then tighten all until it all fit. Or you can put in the gray valve first, then the black valve so that you can jiggle things around. I hope you have success

RE: Duct tape residue?? Cleaning it off.

I have used the gas additive called HEET that is used to treat gasoline that has water in it. I think it is a form of alcohol. In a pinch, I have also used everclear:)

RE: Generators? How do we choose?

Another issue to consider is that at least for us, the gen can be physically hard to start especially the larger ones. Electric start could be a easy to feature.

RE: Add a 12V outlet

BrokenElbow: Thanks for the tip about 12v connectors. I was able to find them in town at the local boat shop. Exactly what I was looking for.

RE: Monthly cell phone charges

You may find that cell service in Alaska is limited to the larger cities, Anchorage, Fairbanks, Valdez, Soldatna etc. No service in the more remote areas. We found that our ATT phone was very expensive in Canada and Alaska. Many of the more popular RV Parks along the way had WiFi available close the to Office.

RE: Add a 12V outlet

I'm looking for a source for a 12V plug and recepticle similar to the ones used on the honda generators for the charging circuit. I'm aware of the cig lighter type, but do not want to use. Can someone point me in hte right direction?

RE: TurboTax Program

I,m sure that there are good online tax programs, but being the paranoid that I am, I'm not inclined to have my tax information stored on a some server in some unknown location. With all of the electronic break-ins that were hear about in banks, national chain stores, mistakes made by IT wizards, etc. I don't trust them. I do min on my own computer, back it up to a CD, store it with the install disk in a file with the printed return, then delete it all from the computer. To each their own. IMHO

RE: Locked out of computer~now what?

Just a note of caution---> While it is convenient to not have a password for an administrator account, If you computer is stolen (or hijacked by a virus) then anyone can access all of the information on your computer. A better choice is to use the administrator account for installing or deleting, and then create a non-administrator user account to use on a day by day basis. JMHO

RE: Is Alaska Trip Afforable?

We traveled to Alaska in 2006, and I planned for 7,000 miles at $4/Gal.=$2800. We traveled 8800 miles and the total cost of fuel was $2856. Even if fuel went from $5/gal to $6/gal your 11,000 miles cost you an additional $1,100. I hope that would not be the trip killer for you. Especially a "Bucket List" trip.

RE: Microsoft Outlook

On your old computer, start Outlook. Click on File, select Import and Export, click next, Choose Export to a File, click next, select Personal Folder File, click next, Highlight Personal Folders and check the box next to Include Subdirectories, click next, Click on Browse and save the file to a jump drive, or a memory stick or to your CD drive. This will save all of your messages, address book, calendar and tasks. You can then take the cd or memory stick to the new computer and start Outlook and click on File, Import and Export, only this time you will select Import from another program or file, select Personal File Folder, Browse to find the file saved above and finish.

RE: NW Storms

On Chinook Pass we received 20" of new snow on Saturday night and Sunday. It turned to rain on Sunday nite and rain through most of Monday. Had fun snowblowing the light and fluffy snow on Sunday, but Monday and today is a real mess. Had to have the neighbor use his pickup/plow to clean up the driveway. Have been shovelling "Cascade Concrete" (wet snow) for two days including the top of the RV. I'm pooped and it is just the beginning of Winter
The sun is out and the view from our window is stunning.
